Acute myeloid leukemia (
AML) expert Dr. David Steensma describes encouraging developments in
treating AML. This includes the
FDA approval of eight
new treatments in the past few years and the many
clinical trials under way for AML. Medications that target specific
mutations responsible for AML are also available as
targeted therapy. Some of these target the bone marrow environment where AML cells develop. New
chemotherapy drugs for AML are also being developed.
